I debated posting this because I didn’t think it was technically Gert & Co related, but then I realized, it’s exactly that. The same things I want for my kids are at the core of what Gert & Co is - how the brand has evolved and what I hope my products bring to people’s lives. So here are the 2 main things I want for my kids. There are obviously more, but these are what I’ve learned to be the most beneficial in being genuinely happy in life. 1. To be confident in who you are. Be yourself, trust your gut, and make others feel comfortable enough to do the same. It takes all kinds, so don’t yuck someone’s yum just because it isn’t your flavor of choice. If it’s not hurting you or someone else, it’s not for you to worry about or comment on. 2. Be the person who makes others feel good - the way you make people feel matters. Say hi to the new kid, give a stranger a compliment if you really love something about them, tell people you appreciate them, just be there when a friend feels like trash, etc. None of these things are always easy, especially during your angsty, awkward teenage years or when the world is such a dumpster fire, BUT they are things I know make me feel at peace. I’m not perfect and I don’t always (nor have I always) followed these wishes for myself, but they’re what I always come back to. And they’re what Gert & Co is all about. Products that make you smile, products that are inclusive, products that bring a moment of joy to the world and celebrate the little things, and products that make any recipient feel happy. To receive this message from Weston’s daycare and know that he was the person making someone else feel good, seen and safe, made me so insanely proud (I obviously cried). And it made me finally realize the true ‘why’ behind Gert & Co. My products aren’t going to ‘change the world’ or save lives, but hopefully they just make you feel happy. That’s really it. I want you to see my products and go “oh cute!” and smile. I want you to give someone a Gert & Co card that makes them feel good. I want my stickers to be a moment of joy, I want my dish towels to brighten up your kitchen, etc. Ok WOW that was long-winded. Thanks for reading!
